The Do’s and Don’ts of Network Marketing

Learning to utilise network marketing to promote your business both for advertising and recruitment of more affiliates is a brilliant concept. However, there are a number of do’s and don’ts with which to comply.

Do:

  • Ensure you are aware of and comply with all the regulations and legislation that now applies to online marketing.
  • Thoroughly research the network(s) you want to become part of. Understand who the participants are, and what marketing messages they are open to.
  • Develop metrics to enable you to track and analyse the return you are getting from your marketing spend.

Don’t:

  • Make assumptions about the people and businesses on the network targeted. Marketing messages that are effective need to be highly focused.
  • Spam your fellow network users with messages. With online network marketing quality is much more favourable than quantity.
  • Ever sell or otherwise pass on any personal details about the people or businesses on your target network without their permission.

Checklist for Network Marketing Involvement

Planning is vitally important to ensure you join the right network(s) that will deliver the business benefits you are looking for.

When joining a network, ensure that you:

  • Choose the right network for your business goals. Ask yourself why you are joining an online network. What do you want to get out of this activity?
  • Develop your user profile. Networking is all about relationships. The more people and businesses know about you, the closer that relationship. However, be careful when exposing information about yourself and your business. Always check your data is being held securely.
  • Try to avoid hard sales pitches on your networks as these are usually rejected.. Your core motivation for joining an online network may be to sell your business’ goods or products or recruit people for affiliation.
  • Obey the network rules. Every network has its own rules. Ensure you are aware of the etiquette that is in place.
  • Commit enough resources. When joining one or more online networks that support your sector, think about how much time and resources that are available. These network connections need to be maintained which could be very time consuming.
  • Maintain contacts. It can be difficult to maintain a large number of contacts. Identify the key contacts with whom you want to maintain a relationship. This will enable a better budget of time and resources.
  • Enhance your business brand. Joining a network can have a great positive impact on a business brand. The close working relationships built via networks is now an essential component of modern branding practice.
  • Create new, original and engaging content. No one wants to read boring posts on the networks of which you are a member. Write relevant and engaging content each time you contribute to a network.
  • Place advertising on carefully chosen networks. The online networks that have developed over the last few years are clearly a great location for business advertising. Banner ads are now appearing on network websites. Careful consideration must be given to what kind of advertising is placed on these networks and what messages they contain. Research the profile of network members to help design an engaging advertising message which will receive a positive response.

    twitter-app.jpgHave you ever been an observer or an unwilling participant in an event — or even an entire era — that left you asking yourself, “What am I missing here?” Disco immediately comes to mind. For kids growing up in the late ’90s, maybe it was the Giga Pet craze. And whomever it was who came up with the notion that a “couples wedding shower” is a fun idea should be shot.

    So when the Internet message center called Twitter was launched in July of 2006 and became the most popular online activity among techies, talkers and Tinseltown tweeters, it left me scratching my head. “What am I missing here?”

    Apparently not much, if a just-released survey by Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project is to be believed. In phone interviews with roughly 2,250 adults 18 and older, conducted over a three- to four-week period, Pew found that only 8 percent of American adults who use the Internet are Twitter users.

    Now this isn’t the first survey Pew has conducted that examined Twitter users. In eight surveys between August 2008 and September 2010, Pew asked participants whether they used Twitter or another service to share updates about themselves or to see updates about others. The key words here are “or another service.”

    In August 2008, 6 percent of Internet users said “yes” to the question. In September 2010, 24 percent of Internet users said “yes.” Pretty impressive growth, wouldn’t you say? But since the questions covered much more than just Twitter use, the resulting figures were inflated and misunderstood by many who clearly thought the survey referred only to Twitter users.

    Thus the decision to move forward with the November 2010 survey, which put forth a straightforward question: “Do you use Twitter?” That’s it. No embellishments, no addendums. Just one simple question. And, indeed, the Twitter-specific survey results show that only 8 percent of adults say they use Twitter, and only 2 percent of those do so on a daily basis.

    That’s a far cry from news and business reports touting Twitter’s takeover of the social media universe. Oh, and get this: Since 74 percent of American adults are Internet users, a more accurate head-count results in Twitter aficionados accounting for only 6 percent of the entire adult population!

    Kinda makes you want to stroke your Giga Pet, doesn’t it?

    The latest Pew survey also includes some demographic information and usage statistics about this seemingly paltry bunch of Twitter users. For instance, young tweeters between the ages of 18 and 29 years of age (14 percent) are more likely to user Twitter than other adults. Latinos (18 percent) and African-Americans (13 percent) are more than twice as likely to user Twitter as white Internet users (5 percent). And city dwellers (11 percent) are twice as likely to use Twitter as rural residents (5 percent). And of all Twitter fans, women and college-educated Internet users are more likely than average to tweet.

    Follow-up surveys by Pew show that 24 percent of Twitter users claim to check in multiple times a day for tweets, while 41 percent say they seldom or never look for new material on the site. As for what these Twitter users talk about, 74 percent list personal life, activities and interests, while 62 percent say they post updates regarding their work, and another 55 percent share links to news stories. Fifty-three percent say they retweet material they received, 40 percent share photos and 28 percent share videos with others. And 24 percent use Twitter to tweet their location.

    You can always hire the services of website designers to come up with the right design for you and your business. As much as you can, choose an SEO friendly website design so that you get the most number of clicks per day and an ample number of potential clients.

    If setting up an online business isn’t your cup of tea, then you can still consider the following alternatives on how to make money on the internet:

    • Affiliate marketing. Since you don’t have your own product, you can go ahead and advertise the products or services that are being offered by other businesses.
    • Freelance careers. Putting up a business isn’t the only thing that you can do on how to make money on the internet. If you just want to get out of the humdrum office life, then you can choose any of the freelance jobs that are being offered online. If you’re good at writing, customer services, secretarial services, web design, and many more, then you can begin a job that doesn’t require you to commute to an office every day.

    • What is my Current Mindset?

    Would you like to determine your current mindset?

    When I first came interested in developing a successful mindset I came across an exercise I found by reading the book “What I Didn’t Learn At School But Wish I Had” by Jamie McIntyre. I found the exercise to be very insightful, in this particular case it was related to money but I have found it easily applicable to other areas as well (for e.g. health, creativity, intelligence etc.).

    According to Jamie McIntyre the exercise is designed to go beyond the conscious mind to access the subconscious files we link to money. When you first begin you will more than likely only be answering from your conscious mind, which will give you automatic conscious answers. Eventually, you will exhaust all your conscious answers and begin to call on the files of the subconscious mind.

    I came up with some quite surprising results, experiences and memories from the past that I had no idea affected my feelings toward money. You can do this exercise by yourself, however I found it more effective with a partner.

    Mindset Exercise
    If you choose to do it with a partner then get them to ask you the three questions listed below, your partner can also write down your replies as you answer each question. Your partner will need to keep asking each question until your answers have been completely exhausted in each area. Push beyond the automatic answers so that you discover the deeper associations and emotional impacts of money in your life. Ask the first question at least 20 times until the answers are completely exhausted, then switch to the second question for 20 times, and then the third question for at least 20 times. You’ll get the most out of this exercise by being true to yourself and pushing really hard.

    1. What is money?
    2. What is not having money?
    3. What is money, really?

    Once you feel you have exhausted all possible answers for the questions above you can then begin to understand your current mindset and begin to condition your nervous system for asuccess, using the insights you have gained. To help you do this try answering the questions below.

    1. What are my most limiting beliefs about having absolute financial abundance?
    2. What specific amount of money represents financial abundance to me?
    3. What will I do today toward developing a financial plan?
    4. What did I learn today that I can use to make progress?
    5. What financial terms and aspects of personal finance do I not currently understand?
    6. Why am I committed to follow through?
    7. Give one or two situations from the past of when you pulled through despite difficulty.

    This exercise was a great start to rewiring my subconscious association to money and other areas of life I applied it to. I hope it does the same for you, If you would like to learn more about conditioning your subconscious and not only in relation to money but also in other areas of your life, I recommend Anthony Robbins’ he is a world leader in the development of a highly successful mindset.

    In fact there’s nothing mysterious about it. You, too can quickly get whatever you want …and enjoy it, too – it’s all a matter of mindset, success mindset.

    Start now, and build your own Success Mindset!

    To begin with: Work on yourself. Examine your mind. What are your deep-seated beliefs on yourself?

    The best way to find out is to discover the limitations you set for yourself, which are the result of your self-concept i.e. the way you “see” yourself..

    For example if you decide to do something, like lose weight, or get up earlier, or work more etc. do you find it easy or is there a “little voice” inside you that keeps whispering to you: “No, you’re just wasting your time, you’ll never make it….”?

    Those are the limitations you have imposed upon yourself throughout your life.

    Most probably, the seeds were planted in your mind since childhood and, over time, have taken on the disguise of reality.

    Childhood programming and associations grew up with you and were nurtured, seemingly confirmed, by successive failures throughout your life.

    And things will go on like this until the day when you stand up, stamp your foot, and say: “No! No! No!”

    You’ve just realized that there is no fatality in life!

    Those beliefs on yourself, which you thought you were “born with”, were in fact acquired from your childhood on and gradually built up to constitute your “personality traits.”

    There is now scientific evidence that “you can get to the deepest part of your mind and program your belief system with affirmations, visualizations, prayer” (if you feel so inclined), and thus create a new reality for yourself.

    You can “introduce other patterns of belief into the subconscious and unconscious areas of your mind”.

    This is something within your power. You can decide to do it and then proceed to do it.

    NOW YOU KNOW, and this puts you high above Jim Rohn’s “97% crowd”!

    And you can deliberately program your mind for success, it’s like installing the Success Mindset software.

    Yes, Success Mindset is really like software. Your mind is programmed for success. It is framed in such a way that you always get whatever you want.

    Success is no longer accidental or occasional. It has become second nature to you – or one should even say “first nature”.

    What you used to call failure becomes an opportunity to learn a lesson and move forward to still further success – “a blessing in disguise”.

    One nice thing about Success Mindset is that ANYONE can acquire it, never mind whether some people are “more gifted” than others.

    It simply can be built and nurtured by any human being.

    With the success of Internet Explorer 8–gaining 1.38 percent market share in the United States to lead the pack with more than 42 percent of the market–it is easy to forget that Microsoft is hard at work developing Internet Explorer 9. Today, Microsoft unleashed the fourth Platform Preview release for developers, and told partners and developers to start preparing–the public beta of IE9 is coming soon.

    Internet Explorer 9 is in high demand in the developer community. The IE9 Platform Preview has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times, and the Test Drive site has been viewed 20 million times.

    The focus of the IE9 team has been on developing a cutting edge Web browser as fast as it is capable. When Microsoft shipped IE8, the Acid3 score was a paltry–perhaps even shameful–20. Responding to feedback from developers who have used the IE9 Platform Preview releases, Microsoft has increased the Acid3 score for IE9 by 40 points. This release has an Acid3 score of 95–almost five times that of IE8.

    A post on Microsoft’s IEBlog explains that the IE9 development team is “committed to the right foundation for HTML5 applications, including performance and ensuring the same markup and same script work across browsers. One aspect of doing these things well is integrating the JavaScript engine natively inside the browser, rather than bolting it onto the side to support multiple JavaScript engines as some other browsers do today. How a JavaScript engine is integrated into the browser is as important as the engine itself for real-world HTML5.”

    With Microsoft’s new JavaScript engine–codenamed Chakra–Internet Explorer is faster than ever. According to Webkit.org SunSpider, IE9 PP4 comes in at 326 milliseconds–more than 11 times faster than IE8, and even faster than the recently released Safari 5.0 browser from Apple. Check out the IE9 Test Drive site for examples of what IE9 is capable of, or to download Platform Preview 4.

    Microsoft has been releasing new updates to IE9 approximately every eight weeks, and now it has begun hinting that the next release could be the public beta. If that is true, it means that the general public might be able to start using the beta version of IE9 by sometime in early October.

    The timeline for IE8 from initial beta to official release was about one year–the beta was available in March of 2008 and IE8 officially launched in March of 2009. Assuming a similar timeline, IE9 should be available at least a few months ahead of the rumored release of Windows 8 in late 2011. All of the timelines are pure speculation at this point,

    though.A blog post by James Pratt on the Exploring IE blog advises “Between now and the Beta, we encourage developers to test their web sites with PP4 to make sure well they’ll work with the Internet Explorer 9 Beta and begin to reimagine what they can build when they have a browser that is architected to take advantage of your hardware through Windows.”

    IE8 has emerged as the leading Web browser in only 18 months. With the improvements Microsoft is making in IE9, it will be interesting to see if it can knock IE8 off of the pedestal even faster.

    Most people get started with their business buying products. This is the backbone of any business and without sales nobody gets paid. The problem is when you do not have a budget to sustain your marketing. If your building your business online there are two things you need, time and money.

    Frustration sets in usually around the third month. If your business is not growing you begin to search for answers, usually online. Isn’t that why your here?

    Understand marketing first. Wasting hundreds of dollars each month on product, that you can not afford does not grow your business. If you absolutely can’t live without product, then order enough for you. You do not need to qualify for commissions that your business volume does not meet.

    The two biggest reasons people fail are:
    1. Lack of qualified leads
    2. No Advertising Budget

    You either have a budget of time or money, some have both. the goal here to teach you how to generate enough money to free up your time. Learning how to generate your own targeted leads should be the core of your business model. Sure, you can buy MLM leads, but the amount of time you will spend qualifying them will never be fruitful.

    One step at a time. Mistakes are often made when people learn 10 different ways to generate leads and never spend enough time on any one of them. Spread yourself too thin and you will burn out quickly. There are so many ways to generate leads online, the key is to find those that you enjoy doing. Once you have a short list, master each one at a time. Once you begin to generate five or six leads a day, move on to the next.

    The goal should be to generate 25 or 50 leads a day from five different places. Once you begin to generate 100 or 200 leads a day, the real magic begins.

    Lets take a look at some of the ways you can generate MLM leads online. The internet if filled with content. A lot of that content is marketing. Some advertising is obvious, but most good marketing is under the radar. This strategy is where you want to be. Nobody likes to be sold to. People get online to find valuable information, before they buy.

    If you like to write then your in luck. Article marketing, blogging and press releases are some of the most powerful forms on online advertising. Providing valuable information on a blog will fill your basket with loyal readers that return every week for more. This is the goal. You can begin to build a list of people. Once you have the list, you can begin to build a relationship with them.

    Brand yourself. Companies come and go, but you are here for the long haul! Out of the thousands of MLM companies out there, only a handful stick around. So you never, ever want to promote your business upfront. If your brand new, this may not make much sense to you but trust me on this one. You will find out why later.

    Marketing systems can make life easier on the new person and the seasoned veteran. You can not do this business on your own, period. In the beginning its important to have a system, or a team of people that you can leverage on. Do not fall into the trap of becoming an expert on all things marketing. Learn to be a professional pointer. Automate tasks as much as possible. The system will brand you as the expert. As you learn more your business will grow. This is automatic.

    Do not get a masters degree on your products. You do not need to understand how the product is harvested or it is processed. The monk that picks the berries, during the harvest mood, next to the island where your juice is made… will never grow your business for you. Study what grows your business, people join people.

    So if your frustrated and ready to quit take a deep breath and realize your not alone. your lack of success is not your fault. Become a student of the industry, learn marketing, adjust your budget and begin your journey to freedom today.
